Côte de Beaune AOC
Vineyard of the Côte de Beaune
Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy, but also the largest communal appellation in the Côte d'Or department. As prestigious as the Côte de Nuits, situated further north, the Côte de Beaune extends between Ladoix-Serrigny and Cheilly-lès-Maranges. This appellation concerns exclusively a few parcels of the Montagne de Beaune with the exception of the Premiers Crus. Covering an area of about 30 hectares, mainly brown limestone slopes mixed with clay and sand, it produces light, fruity red wines and supple, dry white wines made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay respectively. At an altitude of around 300-370 metres, Burgundy's leading grape varieties are ideally situated and account for two-thirds of the production of red wines and one-third of white wines. The appellation should not be confused with the Côte-de-Beaune-Villages appellation, which produces only red wines. Discover this Burgundian appellation of character.
