Aloxe-Corton AOC

Aloxe-Corton, pronounced "Alosse", is a communal AOC in the Burgundy vineyards, marking the border between the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. Located on the Corton mountain, at an altitude of nearly 300 metres, the appellation has 14 Premiers Crus, including Maréchaudes, Valozières and Fournières, to name but a few. Aloxe-Corton produces almost exclusively powerful and generous red wines from the vineyard's flagship varietal, Pinot Noir. The production of white wines from the Chardonnay grape is very rare. Discover this Burgundian appellation of character with the domains of Arnoux Père & Fils, Chevalier Père & Fils, or with the domain of Roux Père & Fils.

SHALL WE TASTE?

vin rouge

REDS

Appearance : The colour is a deep ruby to intense purple, depending on the vintage. The colour is darker than that of other Côte de Beaune wines

Nose : The bouquet is dominated by aromas of red fruits such as strawberry, raspberry and morello cherry, as well as black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant. After a few years, secondary aromas develop, notably floral, such as peony or jasmine. The fruit scents become more jammy, even reminiscent of fruit in brandy. Notes of pistachio, leather and mushrooms are also added to the bouquet with age.

Palate : The result is powerful and racy, richly layered with good tannic structure. Depending on the terroir, the wine can be generous and robust or firm and complex. It is recommended to wait three to five years before tasting an Aloxe-Corton, to allow the tannins to soften and the wine to open up.

Serving Temp:15-16 °C. Caution: never decant a Burgundy wine that is much too fine and fragile.

Ageing Potential : 5 to 10 years and more, for the Premiers Crus of good vintages.

vin blanc

WHITES : Limited production

Appearance : The colour is a crystal clear pale yellow

Nose : The bouquet reveals mineral and spicy aromas such as cinnamon. Notes of orange peel, prune and peony are added. After a few years of ageing, hazelnut scents are revealed.

Palate: The palate is powerful, generous, with lots of volume. The ensemble is supple and well-balanced. The minerality perceived on the nose is also found in the mouth.

Serving Temp:10-13 °C.

Ageing Potential : 2 to 5 years

FOOD & WINE PAIRINGS

vin rouge

REDS The power of Aloxe-Corton's red wines allows it to be matched with equally strong dishes such as roasted or grilled red meats, or with small game such as rabbit in sauce. Roasted or glazed poultry are also excellent partners. For cheeses, give priority to soft cheeses such as Époisses or Livarot.

vin blanc

WHITES The white wines of Aloxe-Corton are the perfect accompaniment to poultry dishes, white meats and shellfish in sauce.

More Information

ALOXE-CORTON PREMIERS CRUS

The Aloxe-Corton appellation is renowned for its Premiers Crus, which are exquisitely fine and elegant. Their aromas differ somewhat from those of the regional appellation. Notes of peony, prune, cinnamon and orange peel are evident in the complexity of the bouquet. The Premiers Crus are produced on 14 Climats over a surface area of 38 hectares. The production of red wines represents the vast majority of the Premiers Crus. However, there are some Premiers Crus vinified as white wines, but this production remains very discreet. The Aloxe-Corton Premiers Crus are without any doubt a sure value of the Côte de Beaune.
