VEUVE CLICQUOT - A WOMAN WITH VISION

Veuve Clicquot - a prestigious champagne house led by an impressive woman, is known today for fine wines like Veuve Clicquot Brut or Veuve Clicquot Rose.

Phillipe Clicquot founded the company in 1772 and when Francois Clicquot, the son of the founder, died in 1805, it was up to his wife to take over the business. The only 27-year-old widow Barbe-Nicole Clicquot-Ponsardin has big plans for the brand. She renamed the brand Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. Veuve is French for widow. Thus the name still stands for the difficult circumstances of the rise of this strong woman. Madame Clicquot was determined to lead the champagne house Veuve Clicquot to the top of the world. The motto "Only one quality - the very best" and you can taste it.

CLIQUOT REVOLUTIONIZES CHAMPAGNE

In 1816, Veuve Clicquot achieved a real sensation: the invention of riddling, also called Remuage. With the help of the shaking tables, a wonderfully clear and golden yellow champagne can be produced. What was invented for the Veuve Clicquot champagne is now standard in the production of champagne. It is this determination and refinement that made the widow Clicquot. In 1814, for example, she managed to export her Veuve Clicquot to St Petersburg via the blockades of Napoleon. An intelligent move, since after the fall of the blockades, champagne from numerous other houses was also exported. Madame Clicquot died in 1866, but Veuve Clicquot Brut & Co made her and the Veuve Cliquot brand immortal. Today 515 ha of the best crus from Champagne belong to the famous house. Since 1987, Veuve Clicquot has been part of the LVMH Moët Hennessy group, which also includes other champagne stars such as Moet Chandon.
