Named the "Garden of France", La Loire is one of the largest wine-growing regions in France and one of the most beautiful in the world.
The Loire Valley, which is geographically diverse, gives rise to wines of great fame: Pouilly Fumé, Sancerre, Saumur, Chinon, Muscadet, Layon, Touraine and Vouvray, white and red wines alike, sparkling and dessert wines too... You may not even have the time to cycle!
Situated in the north-west of France the cooler weather produces quality whites as well as surprising reds and rosés. Definitely a region to try, some great names have been born here. The cyclists will start in the Vendée region before spending a day or two cycling elsewhere in the Valley of Loire before heading north and following the coastline toward the east. Avoiding Champagne the cyclist will not be passing by any other notable vineyards before the 16th where they will arrive in Savoy/Savoie. The home of Vinatis and an underappreciated wine region. Until then enjoy all that the Loire has to offer, and spend a week sampling their wines. Santé!
