Chinon AOC

Chinon is located around the historic town of Chinon, in the central Loire Valley. Eventhough Chinon is producing wines in all three colours, the red wines from Cabernet Franc are the best known. The white wine account only 5% of the total production and are made exclusively of Chenin Blanc. The appellation can be divided into three types of soils that may define the style of the red wine produced. The gravel-sand and clay-sand soils close to the banks of the Loire river are producing lighter, fresher styles of red, while the hillside sites, rich in the local "tuffeau", produce more full-bodied, richer wines with complex notes of black fruits and undergrowth and with more aging potential. The white and rosé wines are characterized by their crisp, refreshing acidity and ripe fruit flavors.
