Bordeaux is famous not only for its prestigous red wines, but also for dry and sweet white wines made of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle varieties. The wines from Entre-deux-Mers are light, fresh and fruity in style, whereas the premium wines from Pessac-Léognan are frequently fermented and matured in new oak barrels and are therefore more structured, rich and concentrated. The sweet wines, such as Sauternes and Barsac are made of botrytised grapes. They are lusciously sweet and show aromas of orange marmalade, dried apricot and honey. The best examples, like Château Yquem, can age for decades.
