SEMILLON

Affinity for oak and it offers a great ageing potential

Sémillon

A major white grape variety in Bordeaux and South-West France, Sémillon (often blended with Sauvignon) produces dry white wines with notes of yellow fruits. However, due to its thin skin and affinity for noble rot Sémillon is better known for its botrytised sweet wines, such as Monbazillac or the very prestigious Château Yquem wines from Sauternes. The latter are highly appreciated for their smoothness and complex bouquet with notes of spices, dried fruits and honey. Sweet white wines with a very good ageing capacity, which are perfect with foie gras, blue cheese or a fruit tart.

SHALL WE TASTE?
In the glass

vin blanc Sauvignon

dry white

On the nose citrus and stone fruit aromas dominate. When aged it develops honeyed and nutty notes. It can also be aged in the barrels giving some toasted and vanilla notes. The palate is rich and full combined with a beautiful freshness. The best examples can age for decades.

vin blanc sucre Sauvignon

SWEET WINE

Often used in blends with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle (Monbazillac, Sauternes). The botrytised grapes then deliver all their sweetness with plenty. Straw yellow colour with golden reflections, limpid robe. Freshness and liveliness. Sweet and syrupy (stronger in alcohol) they are smooth, racy and fragrant, developing languidly in the mouth. Sensual and distinguished, these wines have aromas of honey, apricot, dried citrus fruits, quince, exotic fruits and orange blossom. A real marvel!
