The sandwich, a classic snack, is not just about the famous ham and cheese. Discover which wine to enjoy with one of the most popular and timeless dishes!
Simple food, simple wine! Sandwiches are usually eaten on a lunch break or as a picnic snack. The sandwich itself remains simple, consisting of a loaf of bread, baguette, pita, tortilla and a few ingredients. For meat eaters, meat sandwiches consist of cold cuts such as ham, cured ham, beef slices or chicken strips. As the composition is generally limited in terms of cooking and number of ingredients, it is not worth accompanying your favourite sandwich with an overly elaborate, complex and expensive wine. Instead, reserve those complex wines for another occasion and opt for simple, light and fruity wines.
Beaujolais wines made from Gamay, Loire wines made from the Cabernet Franc and Alsace Pinot Noir are excellent candidates for a meat sandwich. Their exquisite fruitiness dominated by fresh red and black fruit aromas will perfectly match the flavours of a sandwich topped with charcuterie or grilled meats. Light in weight, they are perfect for lunch.
In Beaujolais, Vinatis recommends a 100% Gamay from the Brouilly appellation:
Our suggestion:
BROUILLY - LES CLOCHERS - VIGNERONS DE BEL AIR
In the Loire, fall for the aromas of wild strawberries and the freshness of this 100% Cabernet franc wine from the Bourgeuil appellation:
Our suggestion:
BOURGUEIL - CUVEE VIEILLES VIGNES - DOMAINE OLIVIER
On the Alsatian side, treat yourself to this 100% Pinot Noir with its crunchy red fruit notes:

Do you love tuna or salmon sandwiches? A young, dry white wine is just the thing to accompany your snack. The freshness, minerality and fruitiness of the white wine will accompany the fine taste of the fish. In addition, the acidity of the white wine will contrast with the fat of some fish, especially salmon. For tuna mayonnaise sandwiches, the accompaniment of white wine is all the more justified to cut the fat of the sauce. The tannins of the red wine would mask the flavours of the fish sandwich and the pairing would be completely unbalanced.
For egg sandwiches, the taste argument of fish sandwiches absolutely holds! These sandwiches are often accompanied by a mayonnaise so that the whole thing is not too dry. The dry white wine will cut through the fat of the sauce while accompanying the egg, without masking its sometimes subtle notes.
Vegetable lovers should accompany their meal with a young, dry white wine so as not to mask the subtle aromas of certain fruits and vegetables, particularly avocados, with their fine taste and creamy texture. In addition, some green vegetables are difficult to pair with wine, as their strong bitterness can make a red wine unpleasant on the palate due to its tannins.
White wines from the Loire and Alsace are excellent companions for your fish, egg or vegetarian sandwiches. Don't take any risks and enjoy your sandwich with a glass of chilled white wine!
In the Loire, fall for this 100% Sauvignon cuvée with its citrus notes and its attractive price!
Our suggestion:
TOURAINE BLANC LA JAVA - DOMAINE DES GRANDES ESPERANCES
From Alsace, this 100% Pinot Blanc is a perfect accompaniment to all kinds of sandwiches: a great value!

Sandwiches are popular during the summer season, the perfect time for picnics and hiking. Summer means rosé! Rosé wines go well with both cold cuts and vegetarian sandwiches. As for sandwiches with fragrant and spicy sauces, which are sometimes difficult to match, they will go very well with a glass of rosé! Whether it's with tandoori chicken or curried vegetables, enjoy your favourite sandwich with a rosé wine. The freshness of rosé, its lightness, and its crisp red fruit aromas will plunge you into a festive and exotic atmosphere for an assured gustatory harmony!
As a rosé, Vinatis recommends a Cabernet d'Anjou that is delicious, sweet and smooth:
Our suggestion:
CABERNET D'ANJOU PRESTIGE LES TERRIADES - LES CAVES DE LA LOIRE
Don't be afraid of slightly sweet wines, which are wonderful with spicy dishes. They provide a superb balance between the warmth of the spices and the sweetness of the wine. Let yourself be tempted by a cuvée from Domaine Tariquet which oscillates between dry and sweet wine! A true semi-dry wine that will be a sensation with a spicy sandwich for those who love spicy food!
