90% of Alsace vineyard production is made of white (Alsace and Alsace Grand Cru appellations) and sparkling wines (Crémant d'Alsace). There are also rosé wines and red wines. The main grape varieties of the Bas-Rhin and Haut-Rhin vineyards are Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sylvaner, Pinot Gris (sometimes confused with Hungarian Tokay), Muscat and Pinot Noir. The range of white wines is wonderfully nuanced, absolutely unique, ranging from dry to almost syrupy, to fresh and light to heady.
