OUR SELECTION FROM THIS DOMAINE

Tariquet, the emblematic domaine of the south-west

THE EMBLEMATIC DOMAIN OF THE SOUTH-WEST

Once upon a time, in the South-West of France, there was an old Gascon estate that produced white winesrosé and armagnac wines. The birthplace of the Grassa family since 1912, Château Tariquet has become an emblematic figure in the region with its surprising range of dry and sweet white wines. “Trendy" wines that have been all the rage at the aperitif with the younger generation.

Situated in the little village of Eauze in the Gers department, the Domaine du Tariquet is in fact one of the very first estates to start producing aromatic white wines. Fruit of work requiring patience and perseverance in quality, the domaine’s wine incarnate the family success story of five successive generations. Lively and elegant, seductive by their taste and price, they can be defined as "buddy wines", so much so that some people even think that Tariquet is an appellation!

Fresh in the mouth, fruity taste, the white wines are of irreproachable quality. The best known is the "Premières Grives", which contributes to the success of the château, which in 30 years has become the name on everyone's lips in the South-West.

An impressive ascent favoured by a marketing policy attached to the terroir and by logistics that can adapt to the new conditions of the wine market: innovative vinification methods; labels reminiscent of the Epinal imagery; large production capable of absorbing demand in France and abroad; exceptional quality/price ratio that rarely exceeds 10 euros.

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT

Conscious of the values of the land, the Grassa family’s ambition is to return to nature what she has so generously given. Respect for the plant is essential; fertilisation occurs using vine fertilisers of biological origin. In the wineries, prior to treatment of the juice from the berries, water used to dilute the active ingredients is partially demineralised and its pH is reduced to limit the effect on the environment. Prior to vinification, the domaine reduces use of sulfites to strict necessity. With commitment even as far as the bottle itself, where the choice of glass, the aluminium of the cap, the paper for the label and even the packing are made of 100% recyclable materials.

COMMITMENT TO PRICING

The demand for quality merges with due respect for the consumer in applying fair prices. Honesty in business prevails and there is no question of paying more for a product than it is worth.

A PIONEERING ESTATE IN THE CÔTES DE GASCONY

The Grassa family, like most winegrowers in the Gers, developed wine production in the 1980s, when the sale of Armagnac was experiencing difficulties. The winegrowers decided to try the adventure of dry white wines and it was a real wave of success that swept through the world of wine: prized on foreign markets, these local wines are among the most exported white wines in the world and have since been classified as IGP Côtes de Gascogne.

Popular, they are easy to drink, fruity and cheap. Although they appear light at first glance, Côtes de Gascogne white wines nevertheless hide a strong personality and powerful aromas. They are made from various grape varieties: Ugni BlancCheninSauvignonChardonnay Colombard and Gros Manseng. The last two are local grape varieties that express characteristic terroir aromas based on thiols. These volatile compounds released during fermentation are reminiscent of citrus and exotic fruits. Aromatic profiles which open the way to several experiments and which generate a new terroir: a Gascon temperament which appears to be full of promise!

The Côtes de Gascogne has achieved an undeniable notoriety that far exceeds that of the South-West region... a real foothold in the neighbouring Bordeaux region, which monopolised the wine market for a long time.

The Domaine du Tariquet is indeed at the origin of this real craze for Gers vin de pays. A pioneer in the creation of the Protected Geographical Indication label, the estate has brought in its wake a whole region that will benefit from the Tariquet effect for a long time to come.

TARIQUET BAS ARMAGNAC

The great Maison in Gers has also been known for a long time for the quality of its Armagnacs. It is also the alcoholic beverage that the owners have produced since the beginning. It was only in 1982 that the Grassa family decided to diversify and launch into production of white wines, a resolution that has led to great success. Profiting from the export of their bottles of Armagnac, the domaine’s reputation extended outside France. Within 30 years, the Tariquet Domaine had become the largest family viticultural operation in Europe, with its credo, “Quality at the best price”.
