The star white grape variety of Corsican and Sardinian winegrowers
Also called Rolle (Provence, France), Malvoisie (Spain), Favorita, Pigato or Garbesso (Italy).
Originally from Anatolia (Turkey), Vermentino is an ancient grape variety that conquered the Mediterranean coasts and especially the islands of Corsica and Sardinia. It thrives on dry and not very fertile soils, yet it ensures a regular production. Alone or blended, it offers typical, elegant and fragrant dry white wines such as Patrimonio or Vin de Corse Porto Vecchio. It is undoubtedly one of the best Mediterranean white grape varieties.

It gives fresh and delicate wines. Pale colour of a limpid light yellow. Fine and complex nose combining floral notes (hawthorn, lime, lily of the valley) with aromatic (fennel, basil) and fruity (green apple, lemon, peach, pear, fresh almonds...) plants. An olfactory palette that is confirmed in the mouth and complemented by iodine flavours. A southern grape variety, these white wines may lack freshness but never refinement.
Seafood (prawns a la plancha, scallops...), vegetables (Niçoise salad, asparagus, artichoke...). Sea fish (grilled, en papillote or with curry cream). White meat in cream sauce (chicken with curry, sweetbreads...). Corsican cheeses.
Yes, pronounce "Vermentinu" on the island!
Present on all the Corsican appellations, you will find it under the regional appellation Vin de Corse and the six others under the names of Province (Calvi, Sartène, Coteaux du Cap Corse, Muscat du Cap Corse, Porto Vecchio and Figari).
Vermentinu, Sciaccarellu, Niellucciu, Biancone, Barbarossa, Pagadebiti, Brustianu, Muriscu, Riminese... here are the treasures that Corsica has to offer: more than 30 typical grape varieties. Among them, the first 3 stand out. They can be defined as noble grape varieties. Cultivated on arid lands, they nevertheless give wines of gastronomy.
Corsican wines which owe their strong identity to a savoir-faire, the heritage of a wine-growing tradition dating back to Antiquity.
Thus the Vermentinu produces white wines of very high quality, but you should know that drinking them is not only to stimulate the taste buds, but also the Corsican soul.
The culture of the vine is so deeply rooted on the island, that it becomes a culture in the true sense of the word: "Anima corsa" is an art of living which impels the heritage of the wine-growing land and the transmission of certain values belonging to the Corsican soul. A savoir-faire transmitted from generation to generation, so many gastronomic and patrimonial translations combining tradition and modernity, beauty and typicity... the Corsican way, that's all!
Cuvées brilliantly enhanced by the Yves Leccia estate, an estate in conversion to Organic Agriculture.
