Interesting facts about Saint Amour

The origins of the name Saint Amour:

This Beaujolais AOC takes its romantic name from the Gallo-Roman period. A Roman soldier by the name of Amor is said to have fled the massacres in the Swiss Valais to take refuge in Gaul, more precisely in the Beaujolais region. "Amor" would thus have become "Amour", to finally give its name to the wine.

Vinification :

Depending on whether the maceration is short or long, the AOC Saint-Amour can be divided into two types. A short maceration will give a tender, typical and light wine which should be drunk young, ideally within the year, whereas a long maceration brings power, fatness and tannins. The latter are wines for cellaring, to be drunk between 3 and 4 years. Tasted too young, these wines with a long maceration are rough and unpleasantly.
