Domaine des Terres Dorées — Jean-Paul Brun

The anti-conventional Beaujolais

At the head of the Domaine des Terres Dorées, Jean Paul Brun is a forerunner and is one of the winegrowers who contribute each year to the renewal of the Beaujolais Crus.

Jean Paul Brun, vigneron des Terres Dorées, Beaujolais

Atypical Beaujolais

At the head of the Domaine des Terres Dorées, Jean-Paul Brun is an adept of parcel-based vinification and is one of the winegrowers who, each year, contribute to the revival of the Beaujolais Crus. Opting for a very natural style (the vines are accompanied from the first bud to the harvest with a minimum of intervention), he excels with his Beaujolais. These are accomplished, fleshy and deep wines, far from the stereotypes that are too often encountered in the region.

It has to be said that this very natural style, with precise vinification, without excessive ageing, offering a lot of refinement and nuances, lends itself wonderfully to these wines. The success is such that it would make one forget, with regret, the other more Burgundian wines of the producer.

Burgundian Style

The limestone soils of Jurassic origin, which are very close to the terroirs of the Côte d'Or, have guided Jean-Paul Brun towards a Burgundian style of vinification: the grapes ferment in their own yeasts from the terroir, allowing the Gamay to give the best of itself, namely an authentic wine.

Attached to the expression of the full complexity of his terroir, he complements the Gamay, implanting also Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Roussanne. While being very Burgundian, he adopts other methods of winemaking and thus helps to demonstrate the variety of character and richness of his Beaujolais terroir.

For more than fifteen years, he has also been working in the Côte de Brouilly, Morgon, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent crus, famous Beaujolais crus for which Jean-Paul Brun's personal approach gives them a very Burgundian dimension.

Domaine des Terres Dorées, Beaujolais
The Domaine des Terres Dorées, is about fifteen original and authentic wines. Vinified in the greatest Burgundian tradition, they prove the diversity and quality of our Beaujolais terroirs.

But still...

At the Domaine des Terres Dorées, the vine is accompanied from the first bud to the harvest, with a minimum of intervention. The grapes are not harvested until they are fully ripe. The limestone soils of Jurassic origin, which are very close to the terroirs of the Côte d'Or, have led to a Burgundian style of vinification. The grape ferments with its own yeasts from the terroir, the Gamay gives the best of itself, an authentic wine. At bottling, a gentle filtration on the ground and a minimum addition of SO2 respect the character of the wine and allow it to mature in the bottle. The soils are ploughed. Only sulphur and copper are used against diseases. Great care is taken during the harvest. The grapes are sorted, destemmed and put into vats. Fermentation takes place over three weeks to a month, accompanied by punching down. This long maceration is necessary to communicate the information of the terroir to the wines and thus produce a fine, complex, elegant and authentic wine. For the past ten years, the estate has been established in the Crus: Côte de Brouilly, Morgon, Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. The soils are granitic, with different compositions depending on the crus. The vines are old, the production is small, 30 to 40 hl/ha for a very high density.
