CINSAULT

The key to blending rosé wines

Cinsault

Also known as Cinsaut, Picardan.

Black grape variety with white juice, it is a grape variety adapted to rosé wines. Of Mediterranean origin, Cinsault is widely planted in Provence and the Maghreb. Most often associated with Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, it is intended for the production of pale rosé wines. By its suppleness and lightness, it tempers the power of the more full-bodied varieties: it enhances by balancing. These rosé wines have become very fashionable for aperitifs by the pool and summer barbecues under the parasol. Rarely vinified alone in red, it does however prodvide flexibility in the blending of many southern appellations.
