Rully AOC

Vineyard of the Côte Chalonnaise.

Are you a lover of Burgundy fine wines? The Côte Chalonnaise wine region produces fine wines of historical and international renown, including Rully.

The Rully AOC, located in the north of the Côte Chalonnaise, between Bouzeron and Mercurey, extends over a vineyard of about 350 hectares. The appellation produces both red and white wines and competes with the best crus of the Côte de Beaune. The white wines of the Chardonnay grape variety delight with their golden colour, tinged with green, before charming with a lovely bouquet of perfumes. With good ageing potential, they excel in aromas of hedge flowers such as acacia, hawthorn, honeysuckle and elderberry, as well as aromas of violets, lemon and white peach, before evolving into quince and dried fruit. Full-bodied and long on the palate, their finesse is remarkable. The red wines are made from the Pinot Noir grape variety and seduce with their cherry ruby to dark garnet colour. They give off aromas of black and red fruits, lilac, rose petals, evolving towards cooked fruit. On the palate, the tannins reveal a wine with a slight tightening of the aftertaste which gives them a good sign of persistence. These wines are generous and tasty enough to be enjoyed with roasts, stews and coq au vin. Domaine Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine de Villaine and Maison Louis Jadot and Closerie des Alisiers are particularly good examples of this appellation. DRY RED WINE

Nose: The nose reveals aromas of black fruit (blackcurrant, blackberry) and red fruit (bigarreau), liquorice, lilac, and rose petal, evolving towards cooked fruit, kirsch and pepper.

Palate: On the palate, the tannins respect the fruit and the originality of the wine. The red Rully also benefits from ageing at least three years, before being tasted.

Serving temperature: 14-16 °C.

Ageing potential: 4 to 5 years.

vin blanc

DRY WHITE WINE

Appearance: The white Rully has a golden colour with green reflections, which intensifies with age towards buttercup.

Nose: On the nose, the bouquet gives off aromas of hedge flowers (acacia, honeysuckle, hawthorn, elderberry), lemon, white peach, and the minerality of flint. With ageing, notes of honey, quince and dried fruit complete the bouquet.

Palate: The white Rully is very fruity, full-bodied and ample. The finish is long with a lot of vivacity.

Serving temperature: 12-14 °C.

Ageing potential: 3 years.

FOOD & WINE PAIRINGS

vin rouge

DRY RED WINE

Generous and tasty, the red Rully is ideal with roast poultry, a pot-au-feu, a coq au vin or even duck with orange sauce. The firm tannins and solid structure of this red wine will enhance cooked cheeses such as Reblochon.

vin blanc

DRY WHITE WINE

Fruity and full-bodied, the white wine of Rully is best drunk chilled as an aperitif and is ideal with fine dishes such as warm shellfish or sea or river fish. It will also do justice to fine poultry in creamy sauce, frog legs, and andouillette. As for cheese, it is the ideal companion for Comté.

WHICH GRAPE VARIETIES FOR RULLY?

The Rully AOC produces white wines from Chardonnay and red wines from Pinot Noir, like its neighbour Mercurey. The grape varieties of Rully are typical of Burgundy and express themselves fully on varied soils. Chardonnay, the king of Burgundy's white grape varieties, occupies the majority of Rully's vineyard. More than 220 hectares are dedicated to the production of white wines. The Chardonnay vines are traditionally cultivated at altitude, on the highest parts of the hillside. Just over 120 hectares are dedicated to Pinot Noir for red wines, which rival some of the grand crus of the Côte de Beaune. The Burgundy vineyard is the cradle of prestigious appellations, giving birth to fine wines.

EXCEPTIONAL RED AND WHITE WINES

The great variety of Climats present in Rully gives rise to remarkable wines with very different characters. The nuances between the wines of the appellation come mainly from the differences in terroir, exposure and altitude, which are very varied in this vineyard. It is mainly thanks to its dry and fruity white wines, with a powerful and pleasant bouquet, that Rully owes its reputation. As for the red wines, they are slightly tannic, well balanced and express the aromas of Pinot Noir with delicacy. If the Rully vineyard produces white wines and exceptional white wines, the appellation is also at the origin of Crémants de Bourgogne AOC among the most renowned in the region.
