Vougeot AOC

Are you a fan of the fine wines of Burgundy? The vineyards of the Côte de Nuits, in the Côte-d'Or, produce exceptional wines, including Vougeot. Located between Chambolle-Musigny and Flagey-Echezeaux, the AOC Vougeot wines owe their name to a small river, the Vouge, which joins the Saône. A tiny communal appellation, Vougeot will hardly be able to grow between the famous Clos-de-Vougeot and Musigny. The vineyard covers about 15.8 hectares of vines, two thirds of which are classified as Premier Cru between Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. An originality for an appellation in the Côte de Nuits. The temperate, continental climate favours the production of wines with a wide range of nuances. Vougeot produces a powerful, full-bodied red wine made from Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay, on the other hand, produces a dry, lively, mineral and very opulent white wine. Discover this Burgundy appellation through the Vougeraie and Maison Louis Jadot estates.

VOUGEOT PREMIER CRU

Over 80% of the appellation area is classified as Premier Cru or Grand Cru. Vougeot Premier Cru, a prestigious appellation in Burgundy, is produced in the Côte de Nuits and is part of the municipal 1er Cru appellations. The term "Premier Cru" means that the grapes with which the wine is made come from a location of superior quality within the communal appellation itself.

On this unique terroir, 4 climats have been classified as Premier Cru :

  • Les Cras
  • Le Clos Blanc
  • Les Petits Vougeots
  • Le Clos de la Perrière

Premiers Crus composed of red wines (Pinot Noir) and white wines (Chardonnay) recognized worldwide as one of the flagships of Burgundy. Vougeot has the particularity of producing white wines since the creation of the appellation in 1936. Produced with Chardonnay grape variety, the wines are dry, lively and very opulent on the palate.

LE CLOS BLANC, HISTORIC PREMIER CRU WHITE WINE

A mythical vineyard and neighbour of the famous Château du Clos de Vougeot, Le Clos Blanc produces a rare wine, classified as Vougeot Premier Cru, the monopoly of the Domaine de la Vougeraie. As old as the Clos de Vougeot, Le Clos Blanc de Vougeot was once called the Petit Clos Blanc de Cîteaux, also called the Vigne Blanche de Vougeot. This vine was planted more than 9 centuries ago by the monks of the abbey of Citeaux. They wanted to obtain their own mass wine, a white wine! Clos Blanc de Vougeot is a historic white wine where Chardonnay naturally finds its place among the great red wines that surround it.

LE CLOS BLANC, A 1ER CRU CLIMAT CLASSIFIED AS A MONOPOLY

Le Clos Blanc is a rare white wine, produced in the Côte de Nuits and classified as Vougeot Premier Cru, a monopoly of the Domaine de la Vougeraie. Indeed, despite the revolution of 1789 and the sale of national goods, Le Clos blanc remains a monopoly, an undivided property and operated by one and the same domaine. It remains today in the hands of the Domaine de la Vougeraie, owned by the Boisset family, which holds it from the Maison l'Héritier-Guyot. An astonishing and exceptional Burgundy wine which is one of the rare great white wines from the Côte de Nuits!

DOMAINE DE LA VOUGERAIE

Domaine de La Vougeraie was born in 1999 from several estates acquired over time as well as the Boisset family's vines. The name of the estate is an unequivocal reference to Vougeot, paying tribute to the precious vines that occupy a third of the vineyard. The estate covers about 34 hectares, two thirds of which are in the Côte de Nuits and one third in the Côte de Beaune, 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay. Driven by the desire to bring out the excellence of the terroir, the Domaine de la Vougeraie quickly turned to organic farming, with a more holistic vision. A desire that allows us to exploit living soils, capable of producing wines of great purity. To achieve optimum results, yields have been reduced to harvest grapes that are always ripe and concentrated, combining ancient techniques with modern technology. The challenge has been met, as in 2020 more than half of the vineyard is cultivated biodynamically.
