Seckinger is part of a new generation of German estates that are challenging the status quo with a radical and committed approach. Based in Niederkirchen in the Palatinate, the estate was founded in 2012 by the Seckinger brothers with a simple idea: to return to a more vibrant, freer style of viticulture, closer to the terroir. Very quickly, they turned to organic and then biodynamic farming, with entirely manual work in the vineyards and extreme attention paid to each bunch of grapes. The plots, often terraced, are set on varied soils that give the wines a strong identity. In the cellar, the philosophy is just as committed: spontaneous fermentation, few or no additives, long ageing on lees, and frequent use of large oak casks and other large containers. The aim is not to smooth out the wines, but to let them express themselves as they are, with their own energy. The estate now produces wines made from Riesling , Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir , all characterised by great precision and a distinct ‘controlled natural’ signature. Seckinger is already establishing itself as THE hidden gem to discover in the German wine scene, closely followed by enthusiasts of lively wines and discerning wine merchants.
