Part of the Argentine Tapiz group (a mosaic of modern wineries with sustainable practices), Wapisa is the only one based in coastal Patagonia and the only one in Argentina to age its wines underwater. Characterised by clay soils, good acidity and low organic matter, its ‘Finca Los Acantilados’ vineyard (Rio Negro province) stands out for its exceptional oceanic climate. Located some 40 kilometres from the Atlantic coast, the estate’s vines benefit from an unusual temperature range, cooled at night by refreshing sea breezes. Named “Wapisa” in reference to the indigenous word for “whale”, this Patagonian winery produces a unique range of single-varietal wines ( Malbec , Pinot Noir , Cabernet Sauvignon , Sauvignon Blanc ). On the palate, its wines are balanced and fruity, with a touch of salinity and a delicate varietal expression. As wine master Tim Atkin put it, this is “the new Argentina”… A partner of the California Ocean Alliance, Wapisa is undoubtedly a winery to watch!
