In 1984, when Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti decided to acquire what would become Tua Rita, these lands and buildings were intended simply as the setting for a lifestyle close to nature, where they would cultivate their own land. However, their irresistible passion for wine radically changed the situation. From the original two hectares of vines – cultivated from the outset with the utmost rigour and which established Tua Rita as one of Italy ’s pioneering success stories based on the ‘garage wine’ model – the estate expanded over the course of a decade to 9 hectares, then to 20 hectares at the start of the new millennium, and now comprises 60 hectares of vines. This growth has combined Rita and Virgilio’s original and undiminished passion with a growing awareness of the potential of this terroir—known as Val di Cornia—situated between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Metalliferous Hills. Just as the agronomic and cellar management would not have progressed without Rita and Virgilio’s commitment, the development of the brand’s image and marketing would not have moved forward without the work of Stefano Frascolla, husband of Simena, the owners’ daughter. Simena herself became involved in the management of the business following Virgilio’s death in 2010. Giovanni Frascolla, representing the third generation, traces the milestones that have made the company a global icon. A journey through the present, the past and the future, exploring the memories, reflections and passion of the generations who have guided Tua Rita to become the international company it is today.
