Owned by the illustrious Mazzei family since 1997, the Belguardo estate is situated in the Maremma, in southern Tuscany, on the hills between Grosseto and Montiano, just 10 km from the Tyrrhenian Sea. A blend of woodland, Mediterranean scrub and sea breezes, this vast protected natural area imbues the estate’s 48 hectares of vineyards—currently in the process of converting to organic farming—with its unique character. Dominated by very fine albérèse gravel, formed from the decomposition of sandstone and limestone, the poor soils of Belguardo’s vineyards produce great terroir-driven wines. Planted with local varieties such as Sangiovese, Alicante, Ciliegiolo and Vermentino, and international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon , Cabernet Franc and Syrah , the vineyard also benefits from a favourable balance between sunshine and refreshing breezes. An ideal environment for crafting a range of elegant, concentrated and complex red, white and rosé wines, which actively contribute to the reputation of the Maremma and its appellation (Maremma Toscana DOC). This quality and diversity are reflected in the estate’s logo: designed by Leonardo da Vinci, this polyhedron symbolises the eclectic and innovative character of Belguardo’s wines.
