Founded in 1994, acquired by the Allegrini family in 2007 and managed since 2023 by the new Marilisa Allegrini Group—a leading name in the world of Italian wine and culture (along with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina)— San Polo is situated on the cool slopes of Montalcino, in the historic Brunello production area (Tuscany / province of Siena, Val d’Orcia). With its ‘endless horizon’ and ideal microclimate, this estate – with which Marilisa fell in love at first sight – comprises one of Montalcino’s most innovative and experimental vineyards. Certified organic and featuring an underground cellar perfectly integrated into its surroundings, the vineyard, situated in the south-east of the municipality on the hill of San Polo, covers 22 hectares, 8 of which are dedicated to Brunello production. At an altitude of 400–450 metres above sea level, the plots—with their fairly poor, stony soils (mainly galestro and schist-rich clay)—are perfectly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese Grosso; here, this noble indigenous grape variety develops acidity, structure, tannins and complexity, whilst retaining its aromas of violets and red fruits. Looking to the future, the San Polo estate asserts its style whilst respecting the terroir, with a range of wines that exude balance, elegance and modernity.
