A GEM OF THE APPELLATION CÔTES DE BOURG

Owned by François Mitjavile, Château Roc de Cambes is located in the appellation Côtes de Bourg in Bordeaux. Slightly off the center of Saint-Émilion, this estate cover around ten hectares in the north of the appellation. Dating back many centuries, the estate consists of a hillside amphitheater as well as a 14th century cellar.

The vineyard

The vineyard of Château Roc de Cambes, made up of vines aged 45 years on average, is located on a sloping clay-limestone terroir subject to a maritime climate. Thanks to its location on the edge of the Gironde, the river reduces the cold in winter and protects plants from frost. The main grape variety is Merlot. However, other grape varieties are cultivated at the estate, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

The wines of Château Roc de Cambes

At Château Roc de Cambes the vines intended for red wine production benefit from lutte raisonnée (sustainable viticulture). François Mitjavile also relies on permanent grassing in the cultivation of his vines. After a manual harvest of very ripe grapes, the vinification is carried out in a traditional way. The winemaker relies above all on maturing the wines in oak barrels for two to three years, which gives a special dimension to the wines.

The wines of the domaine have a great ageing potential. Distinguished by their deep colour, they are rich and powerful. Popular among wine lovers and wine merchants alike, these great wines have nothing to envy the classified growths of Bordeaux.

MITJAVILE, A SPECIALIST OF BORDEAUX FINE WINE

Françoise Mitjavile is an important figure that doesn't go unnoticed in other Bordeaux AOCs. This winemaker produces vintage wines, notably in the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. François is also owner of Château Tertre Roteboeuf, wine estate located on the south-eastern highlands of the appellation. Even there the main grape variety is Merlot.

In addition to the wines of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, François Mitjavile works with his daughter Nina producing other Bordeaux wines at Domaine de Cambes. In the Bordeaux appellation, these cuvées are produced from vines adjacent to those of Château Roc de Cambes and growing on clay-sandy soils.

The family Mitjavile has another estate, that of the Domaine de l'Aurage, formerly called Château Cadet. Run by Louis Mitjavile, son of François, the estate produces great wines in Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux.

A RECOGNIZABLE STYLE AMONG THOUSANDS

Whether it is at Château Roc de Cambes or at the other Mitjavile estates, the wines are a perfect expression of the terroir and of the Merlot, the family's flagship grape variety. François, like his children, seeks to express the quintessence of the terroir. In the vineyards, Merlot grapes are harvested only in perfect maturity. The winemaker also relies on oak ageing.

As a result, all the wines of the family have the same parameters.

All the wines of Domaine Roc de Cambes as well as those of Château Tertre Roteboeuf, Domaine de Cambes and Domaine de l’Aurage, express the requirement for quality and interpretation of Merlot in the Mitjavile style. Aged wines that are both opulent and fresh.
