Numerous archaeological discoveries show that wine was important locally in Etruscan times. Known for years within a small circle of connoisseurs, Brunello di Montalcino began to become an internationally recognised mark of Italian excellence in the second half of the 20th century, receiving the first Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (the highest classification for Italian wines ) in 1980. The idyllic hill of Podere Brizio is surrounded by olive trees and vineyards facing southwest towards the coast and is also home to Rosso di Montalcino DOC, created in 1984. The wine is produced as the finest expression of the land thanks to meticulous efforts in the vineyards, aimed at keeping the soil dynamic, healthy and teeming with microbial activity.
