With six estates located across Sicily, covering a total of 370 hectares of vineyards, the Planeta family showcases the island's diverse flavours through 26 grape varieties and almost as many cuvées. The first 'cantina' was established in 1995 in Ulmo, in western Sicily, between Menfi and Sambuca, on a 16th-century farm that has been owned by the family for 17 generations. In 1997, the company acquired the Dorilli estate in the Vittoria region, where Cerasuolo di Vittoria is produced, the only Sicilian DOCG obtained in 2005, characterised by its rare 'terra rossa' terroirs. A year later, Planeta planted its vines in the Noto region, in the south of the island, the birthplace of Nero d'Avola. Their latest conquest to date is Cape Milazzo in the north-east of the island, where they aim to produce Marmentino (DOC), Julius Caesar's favourite wine!
