In 1996, impressed by the Agly valley, with its exceptional landscapes, the two Lurton brothers launched themselves and rented a property, Mas Janeil, whose plots were divided between Maury and Tautavel. Very quickly, the plots of old Grenache from this estate show their potential and also their differences. Indeed, the Mas Janeil vineyard straddles a geological fault, there is a wide variety of different soils. Thus, at the foot of the Château de Quéribus, the soil is rather made up of limestone and granite, while the “Pas de la Mule” plot has a high density of schists. Finally, after 10 years of tenancy, François bought Mas Janeil in 2008. He built a new cellar there and partially reinstalled an old irrigation system. The wines produced there are alternately from a single vineyard or blends of different plots.
