The Pato family has been involved in the world of wine for several centuries. The estate is located in the Bairrada region, which enjoys a moderate climate tempered by its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. There are two types of soil here: clay-limestone or clay soils, which gave the region its name (clay in Portuguese is called Barro), and sandy soils. This region has been producing wine since the 12th century. The first vines were introduced by monks from the Cistercian Order, who arrived from France with a cousin of the Baga grape variety .The Pato family owns 60 hectares of vineyards in the town of Anadia. 64% of the vineyard is dedicated to the production of red and sparkling rosé wines. The rest is used to produce white wines and sparkling white wines. It was in his brother's cellar, Amoreira de Gandara, that Luis Pato's father began producing and bottling his own wine in 1964. Luis Pato continues to make his wines in the same cellar. Next to it, he built a new cellar in 2002 to welcome his customers and sommeliers from all over the world.
