Henschke is one of the great names in the country whose history closely mirrors that of the Australian vineyard. Fleeing religious persecution, Johann Christian left his native Silesia and settled in 1861 in Keyneton, in the Eden Valley, an area an hour's drive from Adelaide. The first vine was planted in 1861 and the first wine marketed in 1868. Over the generations, the vineyard has grown and the reputation of the wines has grown with it. Currently, Stephen and Prue Henschke are at the helm of this upscale, family-owned estate which has pioneered the exploration and development of the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills vineyards in South Australia . Beyond his legendary “Hill of Grace” cuvée, Henschke signs an exemplary range of wines mainly from his own vineyards with remarkably balanced whites and reds that are both deep and elegant, sometimes with a long ageing potential.
