More than a hundred years later, Château de Selle, Château Romassan and Clos Mireille, all part of this family-run winery, have become benchmarks for rosé wines from Provence . A FAMILY ESTATE FOR OVER A CENTURY

Domaines Ott is an emblematic name for the wines of Provence. It comprises three wine estates: Clos Mireille and Château de Selle in the AOC Côtes de Provence, and Château Romassan in the AOC Bandol. After a wine tour of France in 1896, Marcel Ott acquired these properties. His ambition was to produce Provence Fine Wines from noble grape varieties, revealing an exceptional terroir. To achieve this, the agricultural engineer decided to restore the vineyards ravaged by phylloxera. More than a century later, Christian and Jean-François Ott, worthy heirs of these emblematic houses, continue to keep their ancestor's passion for wine alive. Domaines Ott joined the Louis Roederer Champagne House in 2004.

To produce their wines, which are made with respect for nature, the Ott family works the terroir of the estates, which cover more than 250 hectares, with rigour and know-how. Approximately 230 hectares are planted, while the rest are left fallow. The vines are worked as naturally as possible and are not treated with any chemicals. In case of disease, the owners rely on treatments based on sulphur and Bordeaux mixture. In addition, to preserve the soil and the unique terroir on which the vineyards are established, they have been reorganised into terraces. This is a way of encouraging the natural drainage of the soil!

CHÂTEAU DE SELLE

The very first estate acquired by Marcel Ott in 1912, Château de Selle is located in Taradeau. Covering more than 190 hectares, of which about 80 hectares are planted with vines, this estate produces racy and elegant wines in the Côtes de Provence appellation. The vineyard is located on a terroir whose soils are composed of gypsum, dolomite, red clay, sandstone, stone and gravel. The vines grow on plots located on high hills inland. They benefit from a microclimate of hot, dry summers, mild winters and early springs. Growing on arid soils with a mineral character, the vines are on average 19 years old. The grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah.

CLOS MIREILLE

Eighteen years after acquiring Château de Selle, Marcel Ott fell under the spell of Clos Mireille, an old property nestled in front of the sea at La Londe-Les-Maures. With patience, he cultivated vines on land where only umbrella pines, mulberry trees and olive trees grew. The estate, also located in the Côtes de Provence appellation area, covers more than 170 hectares, of which about 50 hectares are planted with vines. The vines are on average 16 years old and are planted in schist and clay soils. Thanks to the microclimate and their location close to the Mediterranean, the vines produce fruit of exceptional quality, full of sun and sea spray. These berries give the wines subtlety and a pleasant uniqueness.

CHÂTEAU DE ROMASSAN

In 1956, the Ott family acquired another property: the former Château Romassan estate. They then devoted themselves to the reorganisation of the small plots, replanted with noble grape varieties, and to the restoration of the building, dating from the 18th century, watching over these lands. At the Château de Romassan, located in the west of the Var, the Ott family is working on the creation of Fine Wines in the Bandol AOC. To do this, they cultivate the Mourvèdre grape variety, which flourishes in the ascetic soil of the region and its arid climate. The vineyard is also planted with Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah. Cultivated on a terroir of about 90 hectares, the vines are on average 25 years old. They are planted in a typical and distinguished soil, composed of limestone, marl, sandstone and gravel.

AUTHENTIC PROVENCE FINE WINES

Domaines Ott wines are easily recognisable by their unique and iconic bottle. Created by Marcel Ott in 1930, the design of these bottles is inspired by the ancient amphorae used to keep wine cool. These bottles, combining authenticity and elegance, contain nectars for all tastes. Each of the Ott family's estates has its own personality and charm. Château de Selle produces rosé and red wine in the Côtes de Provence AOC. The wines from this vineyard, planted with noble grape varieties, are known for their elegance, power and complexity provided by the Cabernet Sauvignon. Other grape varieties are used to make them, including Syrah, which colours the wine, Cinsault, which gives it roundness and finesse, and Grenache, which adds vinosity and depth. For the Château de Selle rosé wine, Mourvèdre is also used in the blend to give it a fruity character.

At Clos Mireille, the Ott family produces a rosé and a white wine AOC Côtes de Provence. They are intensely gourmet and fruity elixirs! The rosé from this estate is distinguished by its style, which combines deep vinosity, suppleness and fruity roundness. The white wines of the estate are made of Sémillon and Rolle grape varieties. Sémillon gives the wines their saline character, whereas the aromatic grape variety Rolle brings balance and complexity. As for Château Romassan, this wine estate produces wines with a more full-bodied character, associated with a structured and intense framework. Present in the Bandol AOC, this winery produces a rosé wine characterised by its fullness, classy elegance and tension. Château Romassan also offers a red Bandol fine wine, in which the Mourvèdre perfectly transcribes the character and Mediterranean origin of this terroir. This large-scale nectar surprises with its concentration and depth combined with a unique silkiness and remarkable finesse.

DOMAINE OTT: REFINED ROSÉ WINES AT AFFORDABLE PRICES

Although Domaines Ott produces both red and white wines, these vineyards are a true reference when it comes to rosé wines from Provence. Recognised throughout the world, these prestigious wines appeal to wine lovers in France, but also elsewhere. The Domaine exports notably to the United States, in particular to New York, California and Florida. As far as rosé wines are concerned, the three Domaines Ott properties offer perfectly distinct typicities. Like the rosé wines of Provence, the Clos Mireille rosé wines are ideal for drinking as an aperitif. The nectars produced at Château de Selle are more enveloping and offer a strong character. Finally, the rosé wines of Château Romassan seduce with their beautiful opulence, brought by the Mourvèdre grape variety.

In the range of Ott rosé wines, the family offers a Côtes de Provence Cru Classé, produced by Château de Selle. Offering a beautiful balance between finesse and structure, this wine reflects a rigorous vinification method, honouring the flesh of the fruit. The tension found in this wine is the expression of the characteristics of the vineyard, made up of arid soil and limestone hills, benefiting from an exceptional amount of sunshine. A true invitation to sharing and conviviality, the By OTT range is assembled and bottled in the new Château de Selle cellar. This wine reveals a fine and fruity aromatic palette, with a crisp, fresh and rich mouthfeel. Fans of luxury wines are bound to fall under the spell of the Cuvée Étoile. Born from a free composition, this wine brings together the most expressive juices of the three Ott family estates.
