Owned by Philippe and Jean-Marie Vial, independent winegrowers from father to son for several generations, the eponymous estate is contributing to the revival of winegrowing in the Côte-Roannaise region. Located in Saint-André-d'Apchon, in the foothills of the Massif Central (east of the Loire Valley and west of the town of Roanne), the estate stretches out at the foot of the Monts de la Madeleine. The Vial brothers cultivate 10 hectares of vines – planted in the 1950s and restructured in the 2000s, notably on the preserved hillside of Bouthéran – 8 hectares of Gamay and 2 hectares of Chardonnay and Viognier . Their range of Côte-Roannaise AOC red wines , complemented by a few rosés, whites and a sparkling wine , is distinguished by its freshness, intense aromatic expression and elegance. The Vial estate is in the process of converting to organic farming. And what's more, as committed winemakers, Philippe and Jean-Marie Vial are keen to share their passion and their terroir by welcoming the public to their cellar and working (with the ‘Loire Volcanique’ collective, which brings together the four AOCs of the Massif Central) to promote recognition of a historic wine-growing region that is currently undergoing a renaissance.
