In Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Sylvie Esmonin is one of those places that Burgundy enthusiasts pass on to one another almost discreetly. At its helm, Sylvie Esmonin embodies a generation of female winemakers who have succeeded in asserting their vision in a sector that has long been dominated by men, without ever seeking to make a point of it, but simply through the quality of their wines. After training in agronomy and oenology, she joined the family estate with a clear aim: to preserve the identity of Gevrey-Chambertin’s terroirs whilst bringing greater precision and consistency to the winemaking process. Over the years, she has refined a personal style, characterised by wines that are at once deep, straightforward and elegant. Here, nothing is done to follow a trend. Working in the vineyard requires patience and observation, with particular attention paid to the ripeness and natural balance of the grapes. In the cellar, the ageing process supports the wines without ever overpowering them. The result is expressive Pinot Noirs, capable of gaining in complexity over time whilst retaining great finesse. The estate is particularly renowned for its magnificent plots in Gevrey-Chambertin and the highly sought-after Clos Saint-Jacques, an iconic terroir of the Côte de Nuits . Sylvie Esmonin’s wines captivate with their silky texture, their freshness and that typically Burgundian depth which evolves admirably over the years. Today, the estate remains deliberately low-key and faithful to an artisanal approach. Each vintage reflects as much the personality of the terroir as that of the winemaker: a precise, sincere and understated interpretation of the great wines of Burgundy.
