Founded in 1813 in Morey-Saint-Denis by Pierre Marchand, Domaine Marchand Frères is a wonderful family adventure now in its seventh generation. In 1983, the estate expanded by moving to Gevrey-Chambertin, and since 1999, Denis Marchand (assisted by his brother Jean-Philippe) has been at the helm. The estate covers approximately 8 to 8.5 hectares of vines, mainly Pinot Noir , with a few small plots of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The terroirs cultivated include the villages of Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin, with Premiers Crus (such as Le Clos des Ormes, Les Faconnières and Les Sentiers) and several prestigious Grands Crus (Le Clos de la Roche, Griottes-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin).Committed to sustainable viticulture, the estate favours manual harvesting and often works with old vines (deep root system) on clay-limestone soils. In the cellar, fermentation is long and controlled (stainless steel vats with temperature regulation), followed by ageing in oak barrels — with a variable proportion of new wood depending on the cuvée — for 15 to 18 months.Annually, this meticulous work produces between 30,000 and 45,000 bottles, depending on the vintage. The wines of Domaine Marchand Frères are renowned for their controlled power, aromatic precision and elegance. Their signature: gentle vinification that respects the fruit, offering a true expression of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits.
