A BEAUTIFUL LEGACY OF GREAT BURGUNDY WINES

Grouped around a magnificent building dating from the 18th century, the vines of Domaine Henri Rebourseau are located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The Pinot Noir grape variety is grown on a vineyard of about 13.5 hectares, made up of the oldest plots located between the villages of Gevrey-Chambertin and Vougeot. Today, the estate is present in ten Burgundy appellations as follows: five AOC Grand Cru on approximately 5.3 hectares, two AOC Premier Cru on approximately 1.1 hectare, one Village appellation and two Climats appellations on approximately 7.1 hectares.

  • Chambertin Grand Cru : The estate's parcel is located halfway up the hillside and is made up of marl and limestone soil with clay at the bottom. Thanks to its proximity to the Combe Grisard, it benefits from excellent ventilation. The vines growing on this parcel also enjoy an optimal exposure to the east, natural drainage and a perfect altitude.
  • Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru : This steeply sloping plot is particularly exposed to the east. In a sunny climate, the soil is marly in the upper part. At the bottom, the soil is brown limestone. Situated halfway up the hillside at the southern end of the appellation, this plot is well ventilated by the north wind.
  • Mazy Chambertin Grand Cru : This parcel extends from the bottom of the Grands Crus route to Chambertin Ruchottes. The vines grow on a limestone soil with Indian bead.
  • Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru : The plots are located in the highest part of Charmes Chambertin. They are located on limestone outcrops under thin rendziniform soils.
  • Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru : The estate's parcel is located halfway between the Baudes Saint Martin du Grand Maupertui, the Marais Bas Quater and the Baudes Hautes. In the upper part, on a gentle slope, the vines grow on a shallow soil made up of gravel on the Bajocian limestone slab. The middle part is made up of brown, shallow soil, limestone and gravel.
  • Gevrey Chambertin Fonteny Premier Cru : This parcel is located at the bottom of a slope with generous soil, which gives the vines good vigour.
  • Gevrey Chambertin La Perrière Premier Cru : This parcel is composed of limestone and marl soils. The vines grow in an oceanic climate with a semi-continental influence.
  • Gevrey Chambertin La Brunelle : This parcel is attached to the house forming a perfect entity. It is made up of brown earth below the limestone gravel.
  • Gevrey Chambertin Aux Corvées : This parcel is located just in front of the estate and is separated from La Brunelle by a road. The soil is about one to two metres deep and the stone scree is patchy.
  • Gevrey Chambertin Sylvie : The estate's plot is located at the southernmost point of the climate. Its rows are south-facing, guaranteeing vigorous ripening. The vines are protected from the north wind by a small orchard.

A BIODYNAMIC WORK SINCE 1980

In 1980, Pierre Rebourseau entrusted the management of the wine estate to his grandson Jean de Surrel. On his arrival, he brought a spirit of renewal by adopting integrated viticulture, before moving on to entirely organic farming. In addition, he uses biodynamic techniques to care for the vineyards.

The Domaine Rebourseau team takes meticulous care of the plots so that each vine perfectly expresses the characteristics of the soil and the climate.

Since 2006, the estate has not used any synthetic products. In addition, the cultivation practices integrate methods such as 500 and 501 preparations, but also genodics, a practice that consists of treating plants with music. The current generation of the Surrel family also uses less sulphur than is recommended by legislation.

In the cellars, the team applies a great deal of delicacy in the treatment of the Pinot Noir for optimal expression. Thus, the estate does not carry out any racking. Generally, the fruit is left intact before vatting.

A LONG AGEING PERIOD

The elegance of the wines of this winery is built up gradually. Gaston Bachelard's statement that "The most astonishing art of wine is the art of ageing" perfectly represents the tradition of the Surrel family. Indeed, at Domaine Henri Rebourseau, the wines are distinguished by the particular attention given to their ageing period. In the estate's century-old cellars, the art of ageing allows the wines to be embellished and to reveal their full potential.

In this unique environment, the wines spend 10 to 15 years to reach their maturity period, depending on the vintage. This slow maturation allows an optimal expression of the terroir. As a true expression of the great climates of Burgundy, the wines of Domaine Henri Rebourseau have an ageing potential of 10 to 20 years, or even much more depending on the vintage.
