Domaine Roc de l'Abbaye is located in the heart of Saint-Satur, a historic wine-growing commune in the Sancerre vineyards. Saint-Satur was the name of the companion of Félicité and Perpétue, the saints martyred in Carthage in 203. The commune took the name Saint-Satur in 846 when the Archbishop of Bourges placed the relics of Saint-Satur in the village church. In 1034, Countess Mathilde founded the Abbey of Saint-Satur on the site of the old church to house the canons regular of Saint Augustine. The monks developed the vineyard and were already cultivating the Clos du Roc! Today, Saint-Satur is famous for its ancient Abbey and its hills of Silex terroir bordering the Loire . The Domaine Roc de l'Abbaye, managed by the Mollet family, owns the iconic 'Clos du Roc' plot at the foot of the Sancerre peak of Sancerre. Jean-Paul Mollet, the father, an engineer who graduated from Centrale Paris and son of a winegrower from Bois Gibault (a winegrowing hamlet in Pouilly Fumé), has always been passionate about making wines from the small family estate, even when he was travelling the world for Schlumberger . In 2000, his son Florian returned to the estate. A talented young winemaker, he built a modern winery at Roc de l'Abbaye and patiently expanded the estate to 17 hectares. Thanks to the expertise he acquired in France and abroad ( Australia , South Africa , etc.) and his knowledge of the Silex terroir, Florian's wines have become a benchmark for all epicureans looking for fresh wines with chiselled minerality and delicious aromatics.
