The Domaine de Montcalmès is located about 40 km north-west of Montpellier. Montcalmès was originally a hamlet (cradle of the family) located on the plateau of the same name overlooking the gorges of Hérault. In 1998, after several internships with renowned wine growers such as Laurent Vaillé (La Grange des Pères), Alain Graillot and the Allary Brothers (Domaine de l'Oratoire Saint Martin), Frédéric Pourtalié decided to join his father Jean-Marie on the family farm (then entirely in cooperative cellar) and to create a special cellar.
