Christian Roche was quite a character: a rugby enthusiast, a bon vivant… and, above all, a great winemaker deeply in love with his terroirs in Monbazillac and Bergerac. As a representative of the fifth generation at Domaine de l’Ancienne Cure, he made a bold decision in 1989: to leave the cooperative to produce his own wines and better showcase the estate’s identity. Always a pioneer, in the 2000s he began the transition to organic farming and embarked on numerous experiments, such as the ‘Ça Sulfit!’ collection or trials of Chenin vinified in jars with extended maceration. Today, his wife Nathalie continues the adventure, remaining true to the free-spirited and inquisitive ethos that is the soul of the estate.
