Renowned for its varietal wines, the Corsican-group UVAL or Union des vignerons associés du Levant is a group of producers based in Borgo, a few kilometres from Bastia. With more than 50 winegrowers, the UVAL group covers about 1,300 hectares of vines spread over the east coast of Corsica . This group, whose origins date back to 1975 in the Marana winery, is now spearheading innovation to offer a variety of quality and original products.
Positioning itself as a pioneer of varietal wines, the UVAL group introduced during the 1980s varietals imported from French terroirs such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. This strategy enabled it to enhance the international reputation of Corsican wines. Under the direction of Alain Mazoyer, an oenologist trained in Bordeaux by Emile PEYNAUD, this grouping relies on innovation both in vinification and in the choice of grape varieties. Most of the vines grow at the foot of the high mountains, on the east coast of the island. 70% of the vineyard is made up of Corsican grape varieties such as:
The winegrowers of the UVAL group also use older and indigenous grape varieties such as Biancu Gentile or Minustellu.
The winegrowers of the Corsican-group UVAL are committed to a responsible approach both in the cultivation of the grapes and in the vinification. For example, the winegrowers rely on integrated viticulture, which means reducing the use of chemical inputs. The group's involvement in respecting the environment and the value of the land earned it HVE, High Environmental Value certification, in 2020. This organic label requires compliance with certain requirements relating to:
Most of the wines produced by the group are rosés. Among the ranges offered are those of Terra Nostra and Umanu. Various cuvées are produced by the group's winemakers, including:
Thanks to the know-how and innovation promoted by the UVAL group, Corsican wines are known throughout the world. The estates that have entrusted the vinification of their wines to this privileged partner in Corsica are also very famous. Are you looking for new wines or are you simply passionate about wine?
