Region appreciated for the quality of its climate, the beauty of its landscapes and its art of living, the Côte Vermeille is also famous for its thousand-year-old wine-growing lands where the vines are cultivated on terraces facing the sea. This ancestral vineyard planted by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC, was restored by the Templars on their return from the Crusades between the 12th and 14th centuries. It is here, in this exceptional land, that the Clos Saint Sébastien extends over some twenty hectares. From the coves of the Côte Vermeille to the crests of Albères at an altitude of more than 400 meters, the vineyard is subject to a windy and sunny climate that is particularly favorable to the cultivation of vines... A schist terroir that cannot be mechanized, which only the man succeeds in taming, is the cradle of three prestigious Appellations d'Origine Contrôlée, Collioure, Banyuls and Banyuls Grand Cru , where Grenache , the king grape, offers its finest aromatic expressions. Nestled in the heart of the Roume valley, a stone's throw from the farmhouse of the illustrious painter and sculptor Aristide Maillol, Mas Xatard, built in 1696, is today the heart of Clos Saint Sébastien. It is a fully renovated traditional farmhouse with discreet charm and assertive character, like the wines that are produced there within its old walls. With a rich past, Clos Saint Sébastien is a domaine of men and women of commitment who work, on a daily basis, to sublimate this ancestral vineyard with patience, rigor and the permanent desire to combine quality and modernity, respect traditions and innovation.
