Clos du Beau Père produces ultra-exclusive vintages that delight connoisseurs and aesthetes alike. Jean-Luc Thunevin acquired this Pomerol estate in 2006 with his wife. Clos du Beau Père was then known as Château Ratouin, named after the former owners who had themselves renamed the estate, originally called L’Angélus, in the 19th century. Whilst the estate covers 4 hectares of land, the vines occupy 3 hectares on a terroir dominated by gravel and sand. As is the case throughout the Right Bank, Merlot dominates, accounting for 90% of the vineyard area, with the remainder planted in Cabernet Franc . Whilst the former has an average age of over 40 years across the plots, the Cabernet Franc is younger, with an average age of 20 years in 2010. In the cellar, the Thunevin magic—that of the world-renowned garage wines—works its magic to produce wines that are regularly praised by the press!
