Domaine de Suduiraut extends over 200 hectares with 90 hectares being given over to cultivate vines on a soil that's predominantly sandy-clay gravel. The vineyard grows 90% Semillon and 10% Sauvignon .The proximity of the Ciron and Garronne rivers gives the area an autumn microclimate characterised by misty mornings followed by warm, sunny afternoons. In 1958, the domaine took the name Suduiraut after the marriage of Nicole d'Allard to Léonard de Suduiraut. The château was plundered and burnt down during the Fronde insurrection, to then be rebuilt in the 17th century and renamed Cru du Roy at the end of 18th century. It has then been revived by Jean Joseph Duroy, Baron de Noaillan, the nephew of the Suduirait family. The family home acquired a cartouche depicting the Suduiraut and Duroy coats of arms, forming the basis for the crest now used by Château Suduiraut. The domaine features French-style gardens designed by Le Nôtre, the famous gardener to Louis XIV, which have been enhanced by its owners. On 18 April 1855, the domaine was listed as a Sauternes Premier Cru during the classification of Gironde wines.Taken over by AXA Millésimes in 1992, its mission was to preserve and uphold the great expertise in history and in wine making. It intended that the great wines that had been produced in the past could achieve and express their full potential.
