With a gravelly terroir similar in nature to that of Montrose and Latour, Sociando-Mallet is however missing from any classification, but it has achieved the Cru Classé standard. It has to be said that the talented Jean Gautreau, the tireless artisan working to revive these wines, is there for a reason! Having bought back the estate in 1969, this prominent figure in the Médoc has not been mistaken and knew how to enhance this outstanding terroir for the best. Jean Gautreau then left at the end of 2019, leaving his daughter with an estate of huge fame amongst its fans. Today, Sociando-Mallet totals 95 hectares and produces vigorous, intense red wines with a soft oakiness that are clearly made for keeping. One, maybe even two generations can enjoy the same vintage!
