Grown on the famous red gravel soils that dominate the appellation (100 metres above sea level), Merlot and Malbec grapes have given rise to Château Mérigot. It comes from Château Montfollet, one of the spearheads of the Blayais and Bourgeais regions, run since 1991 by Dominique Raimond, president of the winery and also owner of the Haut Lalande, Graulet and Merigot châteaux. Dominique Raimond is a member of the Cars cooperative, renamed "Châteaux Solidaires" in 2011, which vinifies the harvests of a dozen member châteaux separately, selected with great rigour!
