The Domaine Léoube is unique: tucked away in a coastal strip blessed by the gods, in the heart of one of Europe's most beautiful protected areas, it manages to combine the elegance of the Grand Cru wines with the authenticity of a passionately preserved terroir. Facing the sea, opposite the islands of Hyères in the commune of Bornes-les-Mimosas, the bay of Léoube is a paradisiacal place where sky, earth and sea meet and where very well-balanced wines are produced, the result of organic wine -growing that respects the natural ecosystem.
flourishing estate
A flourishing wine estate that surprises the palate of the most discerning connoisseurs with its range of rosé, red, white and sparkling wines and also extra virgin olive oil.
Not far from Cap Bénat in the commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas, in the heart of one of the most beautiful protected sites in Europe, Château Léoube is found.
Nestled in its green setting on the coast, the estate extends over its 560 hectares of land along the sea over 4 km of coastline facing the îles d'Or.
This Var terroir has belonged to an English family since 2000, who bought the château and its vineyard in poor condition.
Their goal: to produce a high quality wine with character while respecting the land. The project is gigantic: in 10 years, the winery has been renovated and 30 hectares of vines replanted. Bordered by arbutus trees, Aleppo pine forests, cork oaks and a multitude of wild species, the 68 hectares of organically grown vines produce wines marked by the South and the coast.
Carried by the mildness of the Provençal heat and the freshness of the sea breezes, at the Château Leoube also orchards and olive trees are cultivated. The estate produces olive oil, fruits, vegetables and by-products: tapenade, olivade, jams and honey.
But in this enchanting setting, it is the work of the vine that takes centre stage.
The estate's collection of wines comes in three colours, but it is the rosé wines that have the upper hand. The Léoube-style rosé has given birth to great wines.
Under the appellations Côtes-de-Provence and Côtes-de-Provence-La-Londe, the estate produces a variety of the best wines of Provence which are available in 3 ranges: Rosé Léoube, Secret de Léoube et Léoube La Londe.
Wines of great delicacy, sometimes in limited edition and representative of the high standards and the attention to detail of the château's team.
These wines with their iodine notes and exceptional minerality will surprise even the most trained palate.
Top-of-the-range rosé wines that can be found on the tables of the most renowned restaurants. It is through renowned partners, such as the Ozone at the Ritz Carlton, the most breathtaking bar in Asia located in Hong Kong, the grandiose Burj Al Arab in Dubai or the Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, that Léoube is now known throughout the world.
It is also a favourite with celebrities such as the beautiful Claudia Schiffer and top chefs such as Tom Kitchin, the world's youngest star chef.
Subtle, elegant and daring wines that make them true gastronomic rosés.
This prestige is due to Léoube's director of operations: the entire vineyard is managed with precision in the purest tradition by an experienced winemaker: Romain Ott.
Son of a winegrower and from a family of winegrowers for four generations, his name is associated with the great wines of Provence.
In 10 years, this agricultural engineer specialising in oenology has worked with the team to renovate and develop the estate.
It is with passion and a great attachment to his family philosophy that Romain Ott oversees the renewal of Léoube, driven by the environmental awareness of the estate's owners.
His motto: "To produce with love and gratitude the best that a land can give...".
This fertile coastline provides a gentle mixture of biodynamic and organic farming and, above all, the expertise. In perfect harmony with the geo-climatic elements and the fundamental laws of nature, the vines are cultivated according to the subtle rhythm of the seasons and the lunar cycles.
In order to achieve an impeccable sorting, the grapes are harvested by hand. Only clean, healthy grapes in whole bunches arrive in the cellar, where they are processed immediately. When the vinification process begins, another precision work begins: delicate and precisely dosed extraction, natural fermentations are privileged in the respect of the tradition. As soon as they leave the press, the juices are refreshed before beginning their first clarification. After this settling, they are transferred to thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks where they are fermented, if possible with indigenous yeasts. Once the fermentations are complete, the clarification cycle with a regular racking rhythm begins until the wine is ready for bottling.
An authentic rosé wine is made by precise and correct vinification. Aromatic expression and concentration are of course sought after, but without excess. The important thing is to achieve a good balance.
Passionate, Romain Ott produces wines with a very singular character.
The commitment and hard work has paid off, as the estate has been certified by ECOCERT since 2011 with the "wine from organically grown grapes" label, and in 2012 with the "organic wine" label.
The Léoube spirit is the "philosophy of the Essential": Respecting the plant to obtain the healthiest and most balanced fruit possible.
From the vine to the glass, the estate takes an authentic approach with care and attention:
"The objective is to develop the wines and increase their quality while maintaining the "Léoube style": a true, precise, fine, balanced and elegant wine, dedicated to the pleasure of each moment", Romain Ott underlines.
At Léoube, nothing seems to be left to chance, right down to the choice of the most skilful blends. Driven by a constant obsession to develop the wines while preserving the style of the estate, each wine embodies a constant attention to detail and a deep devotion to the land.
It must be said that on these lands, Provence has the oldest vines in France. Maintaining this heritage while respecting traditions is an obvious choise. "We are also careful to maintain an average age of the vineyard between 20 and 25 years. We always think about the future of the estate in everything we do," says Romain Ott.
