about château latour

Château Latour is a monument, just like the 17th century tower from which it takes its name! Situated at the extreme south of the appellation, on the edge of Saint-Julien and on the Garonne river, the estate covers an entire gravel soil from the quaternary period. For centuries, Latour has dominated the first growths of South Medoc, some even say of the Bordeaux region, by the exceptional quality and unfailing regularity of its wines, whose extraordinary richness often requires a very long patience to unfold in all its fullness.

The grape variety favours a high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot occupies 20% of the surface area, and only 5% is planted with Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The uncompromising choices that govern its production (high density per hectare, harvesting of the vines by age, prolonged vatting, drastic selection) exalt its exclusive character, demanding in its young years but incomparably generous at maturity.
