The name Château Haut-Bages Libéral has two roots: Libéral is the name of the family that has owned the estate since the early 18th century. Haut-Bages refers to the topographical designation (the lieu-dit "Bages" is a large plateau in the south of Pauillac ). With superbly located vineyards adjacent to those of Château Latour and Château Pichon Baron, this Fifth Growth is undeniably synonymous with prestige. Managed by Claire Villars, the estate has undeniably gained in consistency over the last ten years: the excellent Merlot grapes produce voluptuous wines, while new winemaking tools are steering the vineyard towards sustainable viticulture.
