The quality of the wine of Château Durfort-Vivens was appreciated at the end of the 18th century. The ambassador to France and future president of the United States , Thomas Jefferson, placed it in his fascinating travel diaries immediately after Lafite, Latour and Margaux. The 1855 classification confirmed the opinion of this fine connoisseur by giving it the rank of Second Cru Classé. In 1937, the wine was taken over by the Château Margaux company, of which the Lurton family was the main shareholder. In 1961, Lucien Lurton, a passionate supporter of the terroir, acquired and restored this exceptional vineyard. Vineyard management and vinification respect the qualities of the terroir as closely as possible. Integrated cultivation, plot selection, vinification and maturing adapted to the quality of the harvest allow the production of a deep wine with a fine and tight tannic structure, where we often find violet, black cherry and truffle aromas.
