The history of this great Château from Pessac-Léognan is rich. It began in 1520 with Jean de Amelin, a wealthy landowner from Sarlat who, coming to Bordeaux on business, decided to invest in the vineyard. Then there is the Pesnel family who brought the Estate into the bosom of the neighboring Seigneurie de la Brède where the famous Montesquieu was born in 1689. Besides, the author of Lettres Persanes was particularly proud of his vines and judged his wine of more worthy interest than the Spirit of Laws. The 20th century saw the domain doze off in the hands of people who did not necessarily have a passion for vines. So, in 1973, André Lurton, grandson of Entre-Deux-Mers winegrowers, in love with this Graves region and a key figure in Bordeaux, bought this estate. He reconstitutes the estate by planting Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc , to produce very attractive and well-balanced red and white wines whose excellent quality confirms the reputation he has enjoyed in the past.
