Château d'Arsac is the oldest seigneury in the Médoc, as Guillaume Géraud d'Arsac was its owner at the beginning of the 12th century. In 1880, it became the largest estate in the Médoc with 250 hectares of vines, but it was not until 1986, when it was bought by Philippe Raoux, the current owner, that the Château regained its former glory and was classified as an AOC Margaux and then a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel. At the time, it was falling into ruin, the cellars were abandoned and the vineyard reduced to 3 hectares. Starting from scratch, Philippe Raoux succeeded in establishing Château d'Arsac wines among the great names of Bordeaux.
