Alexandre-Louis Pommery, an enlightened businessman, founded the Pommery champagne house in 1836. Upon his death, his wife Jeanne-Alexandrine Pommery took over the reins of the company and the young widow set out to conquer national and international markets, shaking up the rules of business management. Madame Pommery wanted to produce a different kind of wine. In July 1868, she launched the "project of the century" in Reims: the transformation of chalk caves into cellars. Belgian and French miners dug 18 kilometres of interconnected galleries 30 metres underground. Gustave Navlet sculpted huge bas-reliefs into the spaces formed by the old wells, accentuating the beauty of these grandiose galleries. Pommery is delicacy and liveliness, heart and spirit, a style of finesse that plays on a score that highlights the elegance of the aromas rather than their power. Identifiable by its "Royal Blue" colour, Pommery is characterised by the consistent quality of its champagnes, ensured by the extended ageing time of all its cuvées. Avant-garde, innovative and daring, the Pommery range offers a wide variety of cuvées suitable for all occasions.
