Founded in Tuscany in 1970, Caparzo is one of the 12 historic wineries of Montalcino and one of the most important estates in the famous municipality of Val d’Orcia (province of Siena). Under the leadership of Elisabetta Gnudi Angelini (the ‘Signora del Sangiovese’, who acquired it in 1998), the estate that produced the very first Brunello has become a jewel at the forefront of the revival. Located to the north of the municipality of Montalcino, Carpazo covers 200 hectares, of which around 90 are devoted to vineyards, spread across a wide variety of sites and the appellation’s finest plots. Planted in the hills at altitudes of between 220 and 270 metres, the vines thrive on different types of soil, some sandy-clay (the remarkable La Casa vineyard), others rich in minerals (La Caduta), or even clay-schist (Il Cassero). Sangiovese Grosso, Brunello, Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot , Petit Verdot, Syrah , Colorino, Chardonnay, Sauvignon , Traminer, Trebbiano, Moscato Bianco… The numerous white and red grape varieties grown enable the production of a wide range of wines – celebrated in top restaurants and at state dinners – including the legendary Brunello Vigna La Casa and Riserva, the excellent IGT reds, and the superb Rosso and Moscadello di Montalcino. Characterised by their consistent quality, the result of meticulous, artisanal production, an eco-responsible approach and an innovative spirit (underground cellar, state-of-the-art laboratory, regularly tested clonal selections), Caparzo wines offer a faithful, elegant and very complete expression of Montalcino’s rich terroir.
