Founded in 1959 in the heart of the southernmost wine-growing area of the Langhe, Cantina Clavesana is a cooperative of Piedmontese winegrowers and producers of wines and local produce (hazelnuts, in particular, are another of the region’s specialities). True to its nature as a social and cooperative winery, Clavesana is now the leading producer of Dolcetto and Dogliani DOCG in the Langhe hills. Its 320 hectares of vineyards, cultivated at altitudes of between 200 and 500 metres, offer an authentic and diverse expression of the terroir. Here, indigenous and international grape varieties grow side by side, giving rise to a wide range of still wines, mostly reds (the Terra and Mito collections) and, more recently, a few limited-production sparkling whites: the famous Alta Langa DOCG. Vintage wines by nature, these cuvées, produced using the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, benefit from the region’s cool climate and clay-limestone marl soils. Proud of its heritage and traditions, Cantina Clavesana continues to evolve, blending familiar aromas, rustic charm and growing elegance.
